How might we help users find compatible pets with suitable conditions?
CityPups is a new startup that wants to help people living in cities find the perfect dog to adopt. The platform aggregates adoption dogs from local organizations and shelters. Once a user decides to adopt, they get sent to a third-party contact to start the process.
The CityPups project prompt already included user interview notes, research insights, and personas created by the startup.

Through research and interviews, CityPups has discovered that people living in cities struggle to find the right dog to adopt due to their unique needs.
Study Personas & Current Solutions
Citypups User Research Study
Through the user interview video provided by Citypups, I organied the following highlights:
Key Findings:
Love at first sight. Adopters say they want to be able to see what the pets look like through various photos and videos.
Pet’s personality is one of the most essential facts that adopters are looking for, ex: Energy level, Friendly?
The adopter will consider whether the pet's physical condition is suitable for its own living conditions, such as if a dog fits the home
Adopters want pets trained

New ways to build connection and trust - not only photo and video but new voice prompts
“Hinge wants to help people get to know you as soon as they see your profile. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, imagine how many your voice is,” said Hinge’s chief product officer Michelle Parsons in a press release. “With the introduction of Voice Prompts, we’re adding more authenticity to the profile experience, allowing users to display their personality in a new way fully.”
Airbnb Research Study
“How might we build trust and improve experiences between adopters and shelters on an adoption platform like Airbnb?”
Key Findings
Hiring professional photographers to host
A dedicated team standing by 24/7 to help resolve any issues that might arise.
All hosts must follow all local safety laws and regulations
Some work collection hosts also provide travelers with online safety cards containing essential information—such as emergency phone numbers
Ensuring people don’t feel like strangers
Every person on Airbnb has a profile page with information about themselves and their home. In order to book or host, you must provide us with a full name, date of birth, photo, phone number, and email address. Hosts can require that guests upload a government ID before booking their home, and then the host, in turn, is required to do so as well.
Every traveler has our global community to rely on, all they need to do is check the ratings and reviews.

User Journey
Based on different research studies, usability testing is given by BitesizeUX. I first designed a User Journey to make a clearer path that a user takes to reach their goal when using Citypups. On the journey map, I marked the problems and potential problems that users responded to in the usability test. I also summarized the user's frustrations and preliminary problems that can be improved and suggested.
I will double down and focus on the result of the highest level of confusion and the feeling of saddest so as to prepare for the follow-up investigation and design.
Service Blueprint - Validate Problems
“How might we help organizations and shelters improve and optimize their pet’s information so that adopters can get more information about their ideal pets and ultimately be more willing to adopt pets from Citypups?"
The service blueprint helps me map out and identify the different systems, from the kind of users who are looking to adopt a dog to the shelter that is looking to have their dogs adopted to the service that is facilitating the go-between.
Combined with the User Journey analysis, I marked the user frustration points to help not just with convincing the different parties what needs to happen but also for my own purpose to validate the different problems.
Brain Storming
As a multi-system and multi-role platform, each role covers a wide range of goals and tasks, so I combine mind maps and role maps to brainstorm to find the corresponding connections, inspirations and to generate innovative ideas.
Business and Participant's Goals
With the research and brainstormed results, I summarized all parties’ goals from my analysis and business goals to clarify the project relationships, visions, and priorities. The technical aspect is another involved party with goals to create a smooth functioning website and a user-friendly platform.
Service Blueprint - Ideate Solutions
Review the service blueprint again to compare and ideate the initial solution.
How-Now-Wow Matrix
“How might we use newer technologies to help homeless pets and establish diverse connections between pets and adopters?”
I used the How-Now-Wow method to ideate and map my solutions into three sections (Normal, innovative, and future wow ideas).
Implanting new technologies on pet adoption platforms can increase commercial value and use innovative technologies to attract more attention from society to help homeless animals.
